The town of St. John, Indiana was originally founded in 1837 by John Hack. A German immigrant, John Hack – whose name was originally misspelled as “Hawk” on the deed to his land – became the first Postmaster. He also founded St. John the Evangelist Parish and the original log cabin church built by Hack and the other parish families is still standing today!
In 2009, St. John was ranked 48th on the CNNMoney.com Top 100 “Best Places to Live” list. In 2014, St. John was ranked as the 4th safest place to live in Indiana.
The town features great shopping with several many specialty shops as well as larger retail stores. New developments include a commercial center on Joliet Street, between U.S. 41 and the railroad tracks. This 21-acre site by Boyer Construction features over 104,000 square feet of retail and restaurant space.
